President Yoweri Museveni has described Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine as “an enemy” of progress in Uganda, saying the singer turned politician has been mobilizing foreigners against investing in Uganda.
In an interview with the BBC on Friday morning with Alan Kasujja, Museveni criticized Bobi Wine who is eyeing a presidential seat for scaring potential investors in the country through his persistent false alarming statements in the international media.
“Mr. Bobi Wine went to America and said that people should not come to invest in Uganda. That means he is an enemy of progress in Uganda. I was in opposition in the1960s where I was a member of DP [Democratic Party], but while I was there I could not say ‘don’t build the Masaka-Kabale Road’ because I am not in the government,” Museveni said.
Museveni said that Bobi Wine’s foreign utterances tantamount to waging war on the prosperity of Uganda, adding that he is enjoying Uganda’s peace and stability yet at the same time he is scaring away investors.
“When you go and tell foreigners not to come and invest in our country then you are waging war on our prosperity. So why then do you want to come and take advantage of that prosperity?” he said when asked why Bobi Wine’s concerts are being canceled.
Museveni’s statement comes a few days after Lt. Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Senior Presidential Advisor on Special Operations warned that Uganda’s enemies will have a very bad day if they tried to destabilize the country.
“I can assure whoever even thinks of messing with Uganda will get a very bad day. Long live UPDF! Long live Ugandan Special Forces!” Gen Kainerugaba tweeted.
