The ruling of the case in which Rwenzururu King Charles Wesley Mumbere wants Court to relax his bail conditions has on Monday 21 been adjourned by the High Court Judge Margaret Oumo Oguli to October 24.
King Mumbere and his co-accused persons had appeared at International Crimes Division of the High Court for the ruling of his application, however, the judge told his lawyers that the ruling was not ready.
In January 2017, the High Court judge Eva Luswata released King Mumbere on bail but his movements were restricted to the districts of Kampala, Wakiso and Jinja during the period of his trial.
King Mumbere states that since his release, the state turned the release into house arrest and that efforts to acquire medical attention have to be cleared through security agencies.
It is alleged that instead of the regular Police to guard King Mumbere, the Army’s Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI) has since assumed the role of manning his security.
Court records show that Mumbere has been disturbed since arrest and restricted only to movements around Kampala, Wakiso and Jinja districts.
The lawyers state that under the bail terms, Mr Kitsumbire is barred from accessing his home and family and he is left without support in Kampala.
It is alleged that although they are in Kasese, the six juveniles are finding it costly to report to court every month yet they have to attend school.
King Mumbere and his co-accused among them, his former Acting Prime Minister ( Kitsumbire) are facing charges of treason, terrorism, murder, aggravated robbery and being in possession of illegal firearms.
He was arrested on November 26, 2016, during an army raid on his Buhikira palace in Kasese Town and was first held at police’s high-security Nalufenya detention centre in Jinja before he was remanded to Luzira Prison in December 2016.
The raid on the palace left more than 100 people dead, including royal guards and police officers who were killed.
The King was arrested with close to 200 other loyalists during the raid and in the aftermath.
However, the state insists that the Rwenzururu Kingdom which is located in the prohibited districts is still held as a crime scene yet the king still wields considerable influence over his subjects.
