FUFA president Justus Mugisha launches 2021 AFCON qualification campaign

Federation of Uganda Football Association (FUFA) has on Wednesday, October 23rd officially launched the Cameroon 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) campaign.

Uganda will take part in the qualifiers for the above mentioned tournament and will kick start their journey with two matches in November.

The Cranes will take on Burkina Faso away from home and then Malawi at Mandela National Stadium in Namboole.

Given the time span between the two games, FUFA has confirmed a chartered flight courtesy of the Uganda Airlines  to fly the Uganda Cranes and fans .

Speaking at the launch of the campaign, FUFA Deputy CEO in charge of football-Decolous Kizza unveiled the campaign.

“As we bid to make a third consecutive appearance at AFCON, we will start with an away match in Ouagadougu against Burkina Faso, noted Kizza.

“Being away, we expect a tough contest and that is why we have reserved a spot for our fans on a chartered plane so as they travel and support the team.

“30 slots have been reserved for the fans who will be required to pay USD 1500 so as to enjoy an all expenses paid trip to Burkina Faso.”

It is understood that FUFA secured a chartered plane that will ease on transportation of players to and fro Ouagadougu, thanks to the Ugandan government.

The Cranes will play Burkina Faso on the 13th of October, four days before they face Malawi.

About the Malawi game and its preparations, Kizza had this to say;

“As we are all aware, from Burkina Faso, we will then take on Malawi in Kampala.

“On 17th November, it will be 366 days since we last played a competitive game in Namboole thus our slogan for the game against Malawi-‘366 Back to Namboole with Cranes’.

“Entry fees for the game will be UGX 20,000, VIP UGX 50,0000 and VVIP UGX 120,000.

It was also announced that their will be early-bird tickets for the ordinary section and they will go for UGX 15,000.

There will also be a provision for Student who will be required to pay only UGX 10,000. However, those tickets will have to be paid for by the school and the students are required to come in groups, fully dressed in school uniform.

The last times Uganda played an AFCON qualifier at Namboole, they beat Cape Verde 1-0 courtesy of a Patrick Kaddu header which saw them progress into the finals’ that were held in Egypt this year.

During the launch, acting FUFA President Justus Mugisha assured that the Federation will give the Uganda Cranes all the necessary support so as to get maximum points from the two games.

“Today we are here to launch yet another campaign as we bid to make an instant return to the AFCON.

“We launch well knowing that we must qualify for the finals in Cameroon 2021.

“As the Federation, we are very grateful for the support from government which enables us to execute proper.

“We would also like to also thank all our sponsors for enabling us to be where we are.

“I would like to assure our coach and all the technical team and players that we will offer all the necessary support so as we help them post good results both home and away.

“Lastly, i urge all the fans to come in big numbers and offer support to our team.”

Uganda is attempting to reach the AFCON finals for a third consecutive time after doing so in 2017 and 2019.

  1. I have always told people in my circles that a One Mugisha Justus in my opinion would be and I believe someday make one of the BEST FUFA President this country will ever HAVE. Glad to read this.
