UNFPA vowes to eliminate gender based violence in karamoja region

UNFPA has vowed to eliminate gender based violence in karamoja region.

According the reach, Karamoja region is among the regions with the high percentage of gender based violence both phybsically and sexually.


According to the CAO of moroto district Mr. kumakech Oluba,” this has affected the development of the areas greatly both social and economic. “Its against this background UNFPA embarked on sensitizing people in karamoja region on the dangers of gender based violence and how to overcome it through different clubs,”Oluba said.

Agnes Jesca Lokiro, women protection and Empowerment regional coordinator IRU-UNFPA Karamoja stressed that over 53% and 13% of women have experienced both physical and asexual violence and this is due to their cultural believes.


She pointed out Police in some areas, conive with perpetrators and denied justice to the victims.
Some of the lacal leaders praised UNFPA for the good work done in their communities for changing their minds.

Under the theme living no one behind UNFPA together with government of Uganda working tirelessly day and night to improve on people’s standards of livelihood in the Karamoja region.
