Uganda’s leading Commercial Microfinance Bank Centenary Bank on Friday March 10th, made a contribution of 35million to Jinja Catholic Diocese towards this year’s Uganda Martyrs Day cerebrations.
The 35million Cheque was handed over to the Bishop of Jinja Catholic Diocese Rt. Rev. Charles Martin Wamika by he Centenary Bank Managing Director Mr. Fabian Kasi and other top Directors at the Bank headquarters in Kampala.
“Our Bank is delighted to make a humble contribution of UGX 35 million Jinja Catholic Diocese towards this year’s Uganda Martyrs celebrations at Namugongo Catholic Shrine. As we commemorate this significant event, let us continue to celebrate our faith and work together to make a positive impact in our communities,” Mr. Fabian Kasi said.
The Bishop of Jinja Catholic Diocese Bishop. Charles Martin Wamika commended Centenary Bank for extending this reasonable contribution towards this years Uganda Martyrs day celebrations.
Centenary Bank Mapeera Chaplaincy was also honored to host the Bishop of Jinja Catholic Diocese for Holy Mass on Friday morning.

Jinja Catholic Diocese is a one of the dioceses which make up the Archdiocese of Tororo and for this annual pilgrimage and National celebrations of the Uganda Martyrs’ day 2023, the catholic diocese of Jinja, was chosen to represent the other dioceses in the Archdiocese of Tororo to lead the cerebrations.
The Church of Uganda (CoU) also announced that 10 dioceses of the Eastern cluster will lead the 2023 Uganda Martyrs Day Celebrations at Namugongo. These are Bukedi, Mbale, Sebei, Soroti, Busoga, Central Busoga, Kumi, Karamoja, North Mbale and North Karamoja.
The Martyrs Day held on every 3rd June at Namugongo Shrines continues to attract more and more pilgrims from across Uganda, East Africa and beyond.
The Uganda Martyrs were killed between 1885 and 1887 for defying the laws of the king after being converted to regions. The execution was sanctioned by Kabaka Mwanga II, the then King of Buganda.
