Uganda forum for Agriculture Advisory center, a forum that brings together a wide range of actors involved in Agricultural Extension and Advisory Services (AEAS) in Uganda have asked gov’t to speed up National Agricultural policy to enforce that extension agriculture and the extension officers.

Officials from the forum led by the forum’s Board Chairperson Adeline Muhebwa and the Secretary for the Forum Grace Musumami have been appearing before Abim District Woman Member of Parliament, Hon. Janet Okori-Moe says all these issues regarding the extension workers cannot be implemented if this policy is in place to guide them.

She adds that the agricultural extension work in the country will continue to in a mess if this policy is being delayed, she adds that there so many advisory agricultural service and there is nothing that guides them to streamline their work and training the farmers.

She also decry of the lack of the extension workers who are 50% below of what was previously planned to monitor extension services.

In the meantime the forums’ Secretary Grace Musumami oppose the move by gov’t to transfer the extension workers from the high offices like ministry of Agriculture, Local gov’t, to work as parish extension workers adding that this is likely to impact on the extension services in the country.

He adds that these Extension workers once transferred, they will not be able to monitor themselves but they will instead turn to be project Managers hence affecting the extension work in the agricultural sector.”Musumami explains.
