AFTER FOUR YEARS, THE TAEKWONDO HEROES TOURNAMENT BACK IN A NEW IMPROVED STYLE

After the outbreak of covid-19 pandemic which affected the taekwondo heroes tournament from it’s normal running. The tournament was last organised in 2019 had taken three years in absence due to corona outbreak which put all sports activities to a stand still.

After a long period without organising this tournament,  today the tournament was successfully organised at Sharing hall,  Nsambya where 14 clubs out of the 70 federation clubs toke participation in this year’s edition.

The participation clubs include, UPDF,  Sharing Club,  Police, AFC from Kitgum,  Isingiro taekwondo club,  Prison.

This tournament was a building up for the coming East African tournament on 6, December and the World Championship due to take place next year in Finland for only black belts.

This year’s Championship was organised in four categories which include,  kids from 6-9 years,  juniors from 14-17 years,  seniors from 18-36 years and advanced seniors from 37-45 years.

The winners were awarded with trophies and medals whereas best male and female player got golves.168 participants competed in this Championship.

According to David Owori,  the president of Uganda Taekwondo Federation said, this tournament was organised well compared to all tournaments organised this year and puts financial problem to those clubs which did not show up.

While Robert Odhiambo,  a federation General secretary,  said that the tournament was organised well and appeal to Ugandans abroad to support the game.

Hamarila Kigozi,  a six years old and a top class student from Junior Winners from Temple fittness club,  was among the best performer of the day after dominating his category.

Mariam Nanyonjo,  a student from Ndejje University and prison player, was knocked out in the quarter final but promised to perform better next time.

Gideon Walugira,  also a student from Ndejje University and Isingiro club player was knocked out in the semi final but went on to say that it was good for him because it was his first time to compete in this game.
