Fifth-placed RB Leipzig, the first club outside of the tournament spots, are six points back from Union.
Dortmund were defeated 4-2 in their last Bundesliga match at Allianz Arena against Bayern München, snapping a 10-match undefeated run (W9 D1 L0). Union Berlin’s last league match saw them triumph 3-0 over Stuttgart at home to extend their unbeaten streak to four (W2 D2 L0).
When the two sides last met in Bundesliga action, Union Berlin came out on top 2-0 at Stadion An der Alten Försterei in October. Janik Haberer led Union with goals in the eighth and 21st minute.
Looking at players who have made a difference this season, Dortmund have been indebted to Julian Brandt, Marco Reus, and Youssoufa Moukoko. Brandt is the team’s top scorer with eight goals, followed by Reus and Moukoko with six each.
Sheraldo Becker and Kevin Behrens have been Union Berlin’s main attacking threats, netting eight and six times, respectively.
