Kigezi Police spokesperson Elly Maate said that the body was found on Saturday, July 22, 2023, by a team of Police officers who were dispatched to the scene after receiving information about a dead body.

On getting to the scene, the body clearly showed that the deceased was severely beaten by a mob which led to his death.

Maate said that the Police investigation revealed that the deceased was a suspect in the theft of three goats from Tumwine James, the LC II chairperson of Nyakibande village in Kitumba Sub county. The deceased was alleged to have been caught in the act which called the mob to ambush him.

The deceased was seen on Saturday, July 22, 2023, being arrested by a mob and beaten up. He was then taken to Kabale Town disguised as if he was being taken to hospital for treatment in critical condition, but was instead dumped in Makanga where he passed away.

The body has not been identified and no one has claimed it. Maate appealed to the general public, especially those from Kitumba Sub county, to visit Kabale Regional Hospital Mortuary to help in the identification of the body and take it for burial.

Maate encouraged people to use police incase they suspect any cases of mis conduct other than resorting to mob justice which is illegal. The deceased’s family has not yet been identified.
