Archbishop Kazimba commends Mothers’ Union role in nation building

The Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, The Most Rev Dr Stephen Samuel Kazimba Mugalu has commended the role played by Mothers’ Union in nation building, community development and bringing up morally upright Children that glorify God.

While preaching during the Provincial Mothers’ Union thanksgiving Service in his home in Namirembe, Kampala, Archbishop Kazimba urged mothers to protect children by nurturing them in a Godly way, praying for them and being their role models. He challenged parents who have abandoned them.

“When you become absent in your children’s lives, they are nurtured by social media, televisions and other platforms. This causes them to learn bad things which has led many of them into criminal acts.” Archbishop Kaziimba said.

During the Service, the Archbishop launched Mary’s Day, Provincial Mothers’ Union prayer guide, the gender based violence resource manual, a Music Dance and Drama Set piece, the environment conservation drive and commissioned the steering committee for construction of the Provincial Mothers Union House.

The Provincial Mothers’ Union President Mrs Grace Murengezi said that as mothers, they are planning to plant trees at all levels within the Church structure.

According to Mrs. Murengezi, the tree planting activity, preferably fruit trees, is to be launched at the Parish level all over the province.

She also disclosed that they will have Music Dance and Drama from the Parish level climaxing at the Provincial level.

According to Mrs. Murengezi, they are planning to enhance their fight against gender based violence emphasizing on training, prevention, response and management using Mother’s Union Listen, Observe and Act (MULOA) approach.

“We intend to focus on training of our members and GBV survivors on economic empowerment and food security. We will also embark on construction of the provincial Mother’s Union House.” Mrs Murengezi said.

The Speaker of Buganda Kingdom’s Lukiiko (Parliament), Owek. Patrick Luwaga Mugumbule who represented the Kingdom’s Katikiro (Prime Minister) commended the Mothers Union for championing development at Household level in the fight against poverty and instilling discipline in the communities where they live.

During the Service, the former Provincial Mothers Union President, Lay Canon Dr. Ruth Senyonyi was dedicated to the Lord as she embarks on her new appointment by the President of Uganda to chair Uganda AIDS Commission.

The Provincial Fathers Union President Mr Samuel Bakutana the Provincial Treasurer, Mr. Balaam Muhebwa, the Director of Mission and Outreach, Rev Simon Peter Ddembe Lya Yesu, Past Provincial Mothers’ Union Presidents, Diocesan Mothers Union Presidents and Coordinators and hundreds of members of Mothers Union attended the thanksgiving Service
