The Archbishop of Kampala Diocese Paul Ssemwogerere arged Christians to change their behaviour and attitude towards each other and act in a manner that respects God so that they can highlight the meaning of fasting.

He mentioned this during the Ash Wednesday service at Lubaga Cathedral as Catholic denomination Christians had gathered to dedicate themselves to the Lord as they start the 40 days fasting.

Archbishop Paul Ssemwogerere called upon Christians not to attend such services for fun but to carry the true meaning of fasting such as avoiding evil acts through hurting each other, attending church services, no stealing, as it will please the Lord.

Bishop Ssemwogerere also appealed to Christians not only to stop at changing their behaviour positively during the but it should the norm even after the lent period.

He as well reminded Christians about Pope’s message to guide them as they start fasting saying: “We need to show the Lord that we love him, and we dedicate ourselves as we start fasting, so that he knows that we love him. And the more we love him, he will love us back.”

Rev Father John Mary Walugembe highlighted the 3 pillars of the 40 days fasting noting Christians to dedicate their hearts in prayer, helping the needy and using the fasting period for the benefit of our lives.

Father Walugembe further highlighted the importance of respecting fasting and following the guidelines such as not eating meat on Wednesdays and Fridays during the fasting periods.

The fasting period is to end on 31/03/2024 and Christians will then celebrate the resurrections of Jesus Christ on Easter day.
