Christians and Priests from at least 70 Parishes that make up Kampala Archdiocese have converged at Lubaga Cathedral to celebrate this year’s diocesan day.

The congregation comprised of students, pupils, cultural and civil leaders among other dignitaries.

The Archbishop of Kampala Paul Ssemogerere presided over the celebrations and in his homily he has underscored the achievements despite the many challenges that have caused pain and suffering to many if not all in the Archdiocese.

He highlighted the generous contribution in cash and kind for most of the Church projects, the celebration of sacraments, increasing number of Catholics and children are all points to pride about.

At this moment he revealed a total of UGX 500 million which has so far been contributed in the ongoing SAAFU campaign to raise UGX 2.4 Billion needed for the reconstruction of Nkozi Parish Church which was damaged by a heavy downpour early this year.

Archbishop Ssemogerere also announced that through the contribution from the Christians the Archdiocese bought Adams building at the heart of Kampala City and renovated the St. Paul’s priestly rest house at Nabbingo Parish all aimed at supporting the Archdiocese in its operations.

He sighted secularism which is compromising the morals not only for Catholics but all Ugandans, corruption, poverty, abuse of human rights among others are still a big challenge.

Archbishop Ssemogerere says despite the tears and tribulations, the Archdiocese remains steady first to its obligation of evangelizing the people and keeping the identity of the church in Kampala.

It was at this moment that he announced the new Archdiocesan theme; “We the baptised, let us journey together in communion, participation and mission – Ephesians 4:1-16”

The Archdiocese is now 57 years of existence since it was elevated in August 1966.
