Atletico 'want to renew Simeone's contract until June 2027'Atletico Madrid are reportedly ready to present a contract offer to head coach Diego Simeone which will give him the chance to renew his deal at Wanda Metropolitano until June 2027.

The Argentine has been in charge of the Red and Whites since 2011, and he has enjoyed huge success during his time with the capital giants.

Simeone is currently the longest-serving manager in Spain’s top flight, while he has won two La Liga titles, one Copa del Rey, the Spanish Super Cup, two Europa League titles and two UEFA Super Cups since arriving at the club as head coach from Racing Club.

The 53-year-old has also led the club to two Champions League finals during a successful spell, although Atletico finished bottom of their section last season.

There has recently been speculation surrounding the South American’s future, with his current deal due to expire next summer.

Simeone is said to have rejected a huge offer from Saudi Arabian outfit Al-Ahli over the summer despite the fact that he is in the latter stages of his deal with Atletico.

However, the Spanish club’s president Enrique Cerezo has said that Simeone will remain in charge at Wanda Metropolitano “until the day he wants to leave”.

According to Relevo, Atletico are keen to extend the manager’s contract until June 2027, with the club determined to come to an agreement with him during the upcoming international break.

Simeone has now taken charge of 637 matches for the Red and Whites, boasting a record of 376 wins, 147 draws and 114 defeats.

Atletico are currently on a run of four straight wins in all competitions, beating Feyenoord 3-2 in their second Champions League group game on Wednesday evening.

Alvaro Morata netted twice against the Dutch outfit, while Antoine Griezmann was also on the scoresheet, as the La Liga side moved onto four points in Group E.

Atletico are currently fourth in the La Liga table, meanwhile, picking up 16 points from their opening seven matches of the campaign.

Simeone was believed to be considering his future last season due to the team’s struggles in the first half of the campaign, but a strong second half to 2022-23 saw them finish third in Spain’s top flight, only one point behind Real Madrid in second.
