Bart Katureebe inaugurates a task-force to probe bribery and cases corruption in the judiciary.

The Chief Justice Bart Katureebe has Monday morning inaugurated a task-force to probe cases of bribery and corruption in the judiciary.

This follows media reports which implicated staff of the judiciary in cases of corruption.

The 8- member team headed by the inspector general of Courts Immaculate Busingye will investigate allegations of corruption in the judiciary, and report back to the Chief Justice in 60 days.

The corruption task-force will receive media recordings with a view of identifying the implicated judiciary staff, who then will be inviited to interface with the probe team. Thereafter, the team will present a report with recommendations on way forward.

“Interface with the investigation teams of Vision Group to understand the scope and purpose of their ongoing project on exposing corruption in the judiciary” reads one of the terms of reference.

Other members of the task-force include; Mr. Vincent Emmy Mugabo (PRO), Ms. Susan Ambinyo (registrar magistrates affairs and data management), Ms Rosemary Bareebe (Deputy registrar Gulu- representing UJOA), Mr. Ayebare Tumwebaze (ass. registrar in the office of the registrar/projects), Mr. Patrick Barugahare (Principal HRO), Ms. Eva Kentaro Mugerwa (an advocate to represent ULS), and Mr. Solomon Muyita Senior communications officer.

Initially, the Chief justice had named a six member team to undertakr the task, but he later addded Mr. Patrick Barugahare and Ms. Eva Kentaro to the team.

On July 09, 2019, the Chief Justice welcomed efforts by Vision Group to expose acts of bribery and corruption tendencies in courts of law. He also vowed that his administration will ensure that any staff of court found guilty of receiving a bribe will be dealt with in accordance with the law.
