Manchester City return to Premier League action following the international break with what has historically been one of their most difficult tasks.
While rivals Liverpool are not the force of last season, any meeting between the two teams who have dominated the title scene in recent years is a huge affair.
Jurgen Klopp’s side may well be enduring a difficult time of things but beat Pep Guardiola’s men back in October and have stepped up in big games, such as beating Manchester United 7-0.
City have also shown signs of fatigue somewhat, albeit not to the extent of Liverpool. The champions trail Arsenal by eight points after a slightly more inconsistent campaign than in recent years.
Still, they went into the international break having put seven goals past RB Leipzig before beating Burnley 6-0 in the FA Cup. That feels ominous and City certainly are capable of going on lengthy winning runs
Man City vs Liverpool team news
A decision is still to be made on Erling Haaland, with Guardiola confirming the Norway international would need Friday’s training session before a conclusion can be drawn.
Phil Foden will around two weeks of action after undergoing surgery for appendicitis.
For Liverpool, Naby Keita has been ruled out but Darwin Nunez is in contention. Thiago Alcantara and Joe Gomez are making good progress on their returns.
The game will come too soon for Luis Diaz, however. Still, the Colombian is back in training.
Man City to win 3-1.
