Former Uganda Cranes international Coffee SC, Simba SC and Express FC flying left winger Ibrahim Mukalazi Buwembo is dead

He passed on at Mengo Hospital where had been admitted and receiving medication after an illness on Friday December 29th 202.

For a long time, Ibra had been battling several illnesses that the family contained quietly.

Buwembo played for Coffee FC, State House, Simba SC, Express FC and Uganda Cranes between 1980s and 2000s.

Ibra was highly controversial in his heyday, with the most notable one to many football fanatics is when he denied being substituted with junior player Ssekasana during the Express FC vs SC Villa game held at Mandela National Stadium Namboole in 1999 when asked his coaches that, “Oy’ Omwana agenda kukolaki ekinemye?”

Buwembo won the Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup with Uganda Cranes in 1992. He was also part of the Express side that won the 2001 Uganda Cup

In January 2001 Buwembo passed football trials in Turkey which could see him joining Turkish second division side then Atuly for period of Six month with a provision of joining Rizespor which caused chaos Express FC between and Army side, Simba SC on who was supposed to release the player.

As he retired from the beautiful game, he became a players’ intermediary (agent) and later a pundit on radio.

He once clashed with the football governing body, FUFA as he spoke his heart out about the management of the game in the country.

The football family in Uganda and the diaspora as well as different sports personalities have paid glowing tributes to the deceased family and relatives.

He will be laid to rest on Saturday, December 30, 2023 at his ancestral home in Kyabaddaza Butambala District.
