Buddo SS wins the 2019 secondary schools MDD festival.

The Wakiso district chapions, Buddo secondary school has been crowned the champion of 2019 secondary school national music dance and drama festival.

The one week event started on September 1st and ended on Saturday 7th September 019 in Kabarole district.

Buddo SS who scored 986 points in 11 items beat the defending champion Mackay College, Nateete, from Kampalaby only two points after they scored 984 points to setle for second position ahead of Bweranyangi girls Secondary School, Bushenyi who came third with 954 points.

60 secondary schools participated in this year’s competitions.

The hosts Nyakasura School and Kyembabe Girls’ School took 21st and 15th positions respectively, while St Mary’s Simbya S.S from Bundibugyo district came last in 60thposition with 521 points.

The one week event was organized under the theme “vision 2040 – harnessing young potential for Uganda social economic transformation.”

Students competed in 11 items, including; Drama, creative dance, instrumental, speech, folksong, poem, western choral, African style, Folk dance, African original composition and sight singing among others.

The competition was held under the auspices of the Ministry of Education and Sports, in partnership with URA and Ministry of Health.

The organizers also award the best performing schools in every item.

Buddo SS won poetry and set piece with 96 and 92 points respectively, Kisubi Mapera won drama with 95 points, Mackay College won sight singing with 92 points, and Mbale SS won instrumental composition with 95 points.

This year competition attracted 60 schools from Uganda and other 12 schools from Republic of Kenya.

The Commissioner for secondary education Mr Sam Kalunga commended the partners for supporting the event saying that the key messages that were presented in every item such as taxation indicates that young generation are now informed.

“You are students today but tomorrow you’re the tax payers and we want you to take the message you have been demonstrating here to our communities to ensure that people are sensitized on paying taxes,” Mr Sam Kalunga said.

As one of the sponsors, URA bought trophies for all the winning schools in every item and overall winner as well as giving out mathematical sets and text books to the participants.

Ms Jeni Francis the MDD coordinator Buddo SS said they would work hard to ensure that they retain the trophy in the next competition.

Buddo as is one the few schools which are excellent in almost all the fields, sports academic and MDD.
