MPs sitting on the parliamentary Budgets Committee have rejected the budget frame work paper proposal of the next financial year 2024/25 costing 54 trillions shs from the Ministry of Finance.

This was after officials from the MoF led by the state minister Henry Musasizi presented a budget of 54trillion contrary to the first tabled budget frame work paper of 52.7trillion shs.

Speaking to one of the committee Members also Bukoto East MP Evans Kanyike says that they won’t allow to be manipulated by MoF officials who are now smuggling in items to inflate the budget for their personal benefits.

He says instead of government increasing the next financial year budget 2024/25, they should rather focus on cost deductions like reducing on the number of Ministers, RDCs, Presidential Advisors and others.

Apparently the parliamentary committee on budget has suspended the sitting to allow MoF to review their budget proposal in line with the original tabled budget frame work paper in Parliament costing 52 trillion.

The Government initiated the budget approval process for the financial year 2024/2025 through tabling of the National Budget Framework Paper (BFP) amounting to Shs52.7 trillion.

The BFP, and the accompanying certificates including; Certificate of Gender and Equity Compliance, and Climate Change Responsiveness were tabled by the Minister of State for Finance, Planning and Economic Development (General duties), Henry Musasizi during Plenary sitting on Wednesday, 12 December 2023.

According to the Public Finance Management Act, the Government should table the budget framework paper before Parliament by 31 December of the ending year(2023), and by 01 February 2024, the House should have approved the budget framework paper.
