The Kabaka of Buganda, Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II, is still abroad for specialized treatment, the cultural institution has said.

The Katikkiro, Charles Peter Mayiga, informed the kingdom parliament (Lukiiko) sitting at Bulange, Mengo, on Monday, May 6, 2024 that the Kabaka has not been given a green light by his doctors to return.

“I’m informing Buganda once again that the Kabaka is still abroad where he went for an appointment with his medical handlers,” Mayiga said on Monday.

“He will only come back when his doctors find him fit to come home but not the people on social media,” he added.

The Kabaka  was last seen in public in March, just days before his birthday run which happened on April 7, 2024 at Mengo.

He never flagged off as he was already abroad. Instead, the Kabaga delegated the princess royal, Dr Agnes Nabaloga, to flag off the birthday run.

The Kabaka has been in poor health in recent years and has flown in and out of the country for treatment. This has created unease among his subjects.

In April 2021, he turned up for his 66th birthday celebrations looking frail, with many saying he is suffering from allergy related complications. But the premier has appealed to the people of Buganda to be respectful when spreading information about the health of the Kabaka.

On Monday May 6, Owek. Mayiga  urged Ugandans to take part in the National Population and Housing Census 2024 slated for this month.
