Buganda kingdom prime minister Owek. Charles Peter Mayiga calls upon people to join the Rotary cancer run cause

The Buganda prime minister Owek Charles Peter Mayiga has called upon the public to join the Rotary cancer run which is aimed at collecting money to save the lives of people suffering from cancer in the country.

He mentioned this as he met the team from the Rotary club at Bulange Mengo for the issues concerning the Rotary cancer run which is due to take place on Sunday 27th August 2023.

The Katikkiro urged people to join the cause so that  they can save lives for the cancer patients.

The Katikkiro has called upon people to join hands and support the Rotary club in their cause towards fighting cancer through constructing the fully equiped cancer ward in Nsambya hospital which will help to extend cancer treatment to the patients.

He commended the companies which have joined hands to support the Rotary cancer run, noting Centenary bank, Unilever, Crystal water among others. He as well called upon the public  from different parts of the country to join this year’s run so that the lives of cancer patients can be saved.

The chairman for the organising committee of the Rotary cancer run Steven Mwanje noted that cancer doesnot descriminate therefore, the Rotary club decided to join hands to fight against the spread of cancer in the country.

He revealed to the Katikkiro that the cancer ward in Nsambya hospital that was started in 2012  has been completed and now cancer patients are able to access Chemo therapy, Surgery,  cancer treatment and operation.

He noted that they have not yet started doing radiotherapy on cancer patients which is the reason for this year’s run and they expect that the radiotherapy bankers will be achieved by 2027, and by 2028, they expect that the fully equipped cancer ward in Nsambya hospital will be completed and it will be called the modern state of the arts cancer Centre, not only for Uganda but for the entire region.
