2022 Masaza Cup final:

Busiro 2-1 Buddu

Busiro county football team has won their maiden Buganda Masaza cup title after a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Buddu county in a well contested final at the Mutesa II Wankulukuku stadium on Saturday, March 4, 2023.

Pacy winger Isaac Ofoywoth and stylish midfielder Masuudi Kafumbe netted for the champions.

Buddu’s consolation came from Denis Kalanzi.

Ofoywoth gave Busiro the early lead before Kalanzi equalized with a header coming to the mandatory half time clock.

Kafumbe grabbed the late-late winner in the third minute of added time to spark wild celebrations.

This is Busiro’s first ever Masaza Cup title in as many as seasons and joins the elite cluster of champions.

The champions claimed the cash prize of UGX 12,000,000/=, gold medals and a glittering trophy.

The runners up (Buddu) walked away with silver medals and UGX 9,000,000/=.

The final was graced by the Katikkiro of Buganda Owek. Charles Peter Mayiga who was the chief guest in the absence of the King, Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II.

Ssingo county team was presented with medals and a Check worth 7 million Uganda shillings, after finishing third without playing the third place play off game because to Bulemeezi’s disqualification by the organising committee due to indiscipline in the 2022 Masaza Championships.

Buddu eliminated Bulemeezi at the semifinal stage last year in October while Busiro saw off Ssingo 4-3 on aggregate to reach the finals.

Gomba are the record champions after winning this championship that only accommodates non-Uganda Premier League, FUFA Big League, Uganda Cranes, U-23 and U-20 players for five times.
