The Simba Queens have remained undefeated in their two matches at the qualifier for the 2024 CAF Women’s Champions League.
Following a resounding 3-0 victory over Uganda’s Kawempe Muslim Ladies on Wednesday, the result made Tanzanian side secured their spot in the semi-finals of the CECAFA tournament.
Coach Juma Ramadhani Ngunda’s team defeated Kawempe Muslim Ladies from Uganda 3-0 in their second Group B match played today at the Abebe Bikila Stadium in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
The match saw a slow start, with the breakthrough coming only in the second half. Kawempe Muslim Ladies dominant with Hadijah Nandago hitting the post twice, Simba Queens returned after the interval a charged and different side.
Kenyan international Vivian Aquino Corazone Odhiambo put the Queens ahead when she headed home after 64 minutes a well taken Precious Christopher’s corner kick. Five minutes later the Nigerian Christopher again delivered a corner kick that Jentrix Shikangwa Milimu raised up and nodded in past Kawempe Muslim Ladies’ goalkeeper Juliet Adeke.
As the Ugandan champions tried to settle down another Kenyan International Elizabeth Mutukiza Wambui netted the third goal after 75 minutes with a beautiful curving shot past the Kawempe Muslim Ladies’ goalkeeper.
Simba Queens who opened the tournament with a 5-0 win against FAD Djibouti have not scored eight goals and conceded none.
Coach Ngunda told cecafaonline.com after the match that their first strategy is always to defend well. “We were out played in the first half, but changes tactics later and scored three goals,” said a happy Ngunda.
Khalifa Ayub Kiyingi, the Kawempe Muslim Ladies’ coach said his players failed to take their chances in the first half. “We also played against an experienced team that took command of the second half. We shall keep working hard to win the three match and qualify for the semi-final.
Commercial Bank of Ethiopia were the first team to qualify for the knockout stage o Tuesday when they registered their second win in the tournament.
