CDF Muhoozi, entire UPDF family bids farewell to US Ambassador Malac

The Uganda Peoples Defence Forces (UPDF) has on Friday 29 bid farewell to H.E Deborah Malac, the United States Ambassador to Uganda.

At a meeting with the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Gen David Muhoozi at UPDF Headquarters in Mbuya, Amb Malac appreciated UPDF commitment and sacrifice towards creating peace and security not only in Uganda but also in the region.

She particularly singled out Somalia where UPDF has been deployed since 2007 under AMISOM noting that the situation has improved thanks to Uganda’s contribution and other Troop Contributing Countries.

Gen Muhoozi expressed gratitude towards USA partnership and it’s government support towards building UPDF capacity as it modernises.

The meeting was also attended by the Joint Chief Staff Lt Gen Joseph Musanyufu and US Defence Attache Col Edward Dupont among others.

The tenure of Malac who bows out in February 2020, came to an end with President Donald Trump announcing her replacement.

Ms Malac was nominated by former US President Barack Obama in September 2015 and took over from Ambassador Scott Deilsi who had announced his retirement from service with the top legislative organ, Senate confirmed her appointment in November 2015.

A September 2019 statement on the US Department of State announced that Natalie Brown, a career member of the Senior Foreign Service, Class of Counselor, who has also served as the Chief of Mission of the U.S. Embassy in Asmara, Eritrea, since 2016, will be Ambassador Malac’s replacement.

Ms Brown also previously served as Deputy Permanent Representative and Deputy Chief of Mission of the U.S. Mission to the UN Agencies in Rome, Italy, 2013-2016.  Ms. Brown also served as Deputy Chief of Mission of U.S Embassy Tunis, Tunisia, 2010-2013.
