FUFA Women’s Elite League has been replaced by Fufa Women’s Super League.

Women’s Elite league was established four years ago in 2015 comprising of 16 women’s football teams.

Chaos in ladies football fraternity as mother body FUFA (EXCOM) recently sat at the headquarters and decided to adjust in the top flight league by creating another one in the set up.

The Fufa Women’s Super League will be in the first position of the women’s football leagues pecking order.

The new top tie league comprising of eight teams, is supposed to be on top of the Elite league, that will start immediately, this has caused a lot of opposition from the members, as Fufa directed the women football association and its competitions department to implement it before the kick off of their new season 2019/20.

This league will have the last season’s best eight teams and will be played as a single grouped league unlike the Elite and on a round Robin basis, the team with the highest points will emerge as the national champions.

The current Fufa women’s Elite league which was the top flight will be the second league tie and will remain comprising of 16 teams, as champion from every each of Fufa eight regions will be promoted to the Elite league to fill the space.

At the end of the season the best performing two teams shall be promoted to the top flight to replace the demoted two teams.

For the Elite , four teams shall be relegated depending on sporting performance at the end of the season as four teams from eight regions of Fufa shall also be promoted to cover the vacuum left.

This new arrangement caused misunderstandings amongst clubs condemning FUFA of interfering with the league set up while not getting much help from them.

Most of the clubs affected had intentions of leaving the game until Fufa through deputy CEO in charge of football development and competitions, Decholas Kiiza held a meeting with women football association leaders and club officials on Tuesday 10th September 2019 at Fufa SIGS offices in Lungujja to resolve the issues.

The Fufa Elite league was only won by two teams that is Kawempe Muslim SS ladies won it for four times and UCU lady cardinals who are the reigning champions.
