The Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, The Most Rev. Dr. Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu, on 26th October 2023 commissioned the review process for the Church of Uganda’s 2016 – 2025 master strategic plan.

The one day review meeting which took place at Namirembe Guesthouse was to evaluate the current strategic plan’s performance, identify achievements, best practices, challenges, lessons learned, and generate ideas for the next Strategic Plan.

Archbishop Kaziimba acknowledged the impact of COVID-19 on strategy implementation, and emphasized notable successes that the Church takes pride in.

“In spite of the profound impact of COVID-19, we have made significant progress in various areas such as resource mobilization to clear Church House debt, establishment of Church of Uganda Family TV, digital evangelism, and continued support of our schools, churches, and healthcare facilities, among others.” Archbishop Kaziimba emphasized

He noted that the review should highlight these accomplishments while uncovering what the Church was unable to achieve and the reasons behind it.

He further stated, “I am impressed that we are utilizing our internal capacity for this review, reflecting our commitment to self-sustainability. Comprehensive consultations are essential at all levels, including dioceses, affiliate institutions, and our church professionals.”

While giving an overview of the current strategic plan, the Acting Provincial Secretary Mr. Balaam Muheebwa challenged the Provincial Secretariat Staff to recognize the Church’s accomplishments, taking into account the challenging circumstances.

He also encouraged them to identify the Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats that will guide the remaining period and the development of the next strategic plan.

The Chief Executive Officer of Church Commissioners Holding Company Ltd (CCHCL), Rev. Jasper Tumuhimbise whose company sponsored the review process pledged to support the Provincial Secretariat in formulating the next Strategic Plan. He further said, CCHCL will hire external experts to give an independent review and equally make recommendations.

During the review, there was reflection on the presentation about Church of Uganda’s sustainability, which was delivered by Dr. James Mwangi, the Group CEO of Equity Holdings, at the 26th Provincial Assembly (watch the presentation at https://youtu.be/7c8YgET_cys).
