The Archbishop of the church of Uganda His Grace Steven Kazimba Mugalu has on Tuesday 28th June 2023 led the Bishops and the team from the provincial secretariate to a three days field visit to the oil and gas operational areas in the Albertine Graben.

This follows the request made by the House of Bishops sitting in May 2022 in Bushaara Island in the Diocese of Kigezi, to the Minister of Energy and Mineral Development, Hon Dr. Ruth Nankabirwa and the Executive Director, Petroleum Authority of Uganda, Mr. Ernest Rubondo to visit the Albertine Graben.

According to the program, the team will visit Kingfisher Development Area (KFDA) in Kikuube District, Kabalega Industrial Park, the Uganda Petroleum Institute Kigumba (UPIK) in Kiryandongo District, Tilenga Industrial Area in Buliisa District, and Tilenga resettlement homes and Livelihood Restoration Programs, Ngiri 3 Well Pad, among others.

The team will as well engage in planting of trees in both Kingfisher Development Area and Tilenga areas as a continuation of the World Environment Day Celebrations.

The Archbishop Steven Kazimba Mugalu has expressed hope in the visit saying, as key stakeholders in National Development, this visit will equip them with accurate information on the oil and gas sector, and to know how to communicate effectively to Christians on the same subject. He added that this visit will help to create space to the Bishops to pray for the country to benefit from oil.

” As religious leaders, we need to pray for the government, the oil sector and our development partners so that the oil production may take the country to another level of development to benefit all Ugandans at large.’ Said the Arshbishop.

The Archbishop is expected to lead prayers at Kingfisher Development Area tomorrow on 29/June 2023.
