Rev. Can. Enos Kitto Kagodo has been consecrated and enthroned as the fifth Bishop of Mukono Anglican Diocese replacing Bishop James William Ssebagala.
The colourful ceremony was conducted by the Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, Dr. Samuel Stephen Kazimba Mugalu and witnessed by a number of Bishops, politicians and thousands of believers.
Bishop Kagodo was introduced to the congregation by Bishop Dan Zoreka from Kinkizi Diocese and Bishop Alfred Olwa from Lango Diocese.
In his message to faithfuls, President Yoweri Museveni asked believers to continue participating in income generating activities to sustain their households.
He said it is important to emphasise to believers that in addition to seeking spiritual nourishment from the places of worship, they should also participate in income generating activities to sustain their households.
“All believers should take the example of Jesus Christ, who besides feeding the hungry, preaching and healing the sick, was also a carpenter,” Museveni said. His message was delivered by the Vice President Maj. Rtd. Jessica Alupo who doubles as Woman Member of Parliament for Katakwi district in Eastern Uganda.
President Museveni emphasized to believers that Poverty among Christian believers should be viewed as an affliction that must be cast out of the homes, noting that poverty in Uganda is caused by subsistence farming; working for the stomach only.
Museveni called upon religious leaders to encourage people to select profitable enterprises in the four sectors which include; commercial agriculture with the correct calculation; industries; services and ICT adding that these are the sectors where households can generate jobs and incomes.
Museveni commended the Church of Uganda for maintaining a cordial relationship and partnership with the NRM government, in working towards the socio-economic transformation of the Ugandan society.
He said the Church has exploited the private sector-friendly policies of the NRM government to extend social services to the public.
He emphasized that
for instance, faith-based institutions have constructed a number of schools and hospitals across the country and that this is proof of their concern for the material and physical well-being of their followers.
He stressed that Government will continue to ensure maintenance of peace and security in the whole Country; construction of the necessary social and economic infrastructure, as a way of facilitating and attracting local and foreign investments to create jobs and incomes for Ugandans.
“The economic advantages that the NRM has created must be translated into jobs and wealth for the household. It is in the best interest of everybody that Uganda continues to accelerate towards modernity, development and political stability,” the president said.
The president noted that leadership is a crucial pillar to the success of any institution, including the Church.
He noted that the Church of Uganda is built upon a foundation of solid and visionary leadership adding that the election of Rev. Canon Enos Kitto Kagodo as Bishop of Mukono Diocese is a great testimony to his tested and selfless service to God and the Church.
“As you ascend to this high position of responsibility, I pray that the Almighty God grants you the wisdom and courage to steer the Diocese forward, with vision, integrity and humility. I believe that the Almighty God, who chose you, to carry the responsibility of shepherding His Church, at this particular time, has prepared you to fulfill your mandate, “Museveni said.
He congratulated Rev. Canon Enos Kitto Kagodo, upon his consecration and assumption of new responsibilities and handed over a brand new vehicle as a gift to help him shepherd his flock.
The President also appreciated Rt. Rev. James William Ssebagala, the outgoing bishop of Mukono Diocese for his commendable and selfless service to Diocese.
The Day’s preacher Bishop Patrick Wakula of Central Busoga Diocese spoke loud against homosexuality. “Imagine a man being wedded to a man and they are expected to bring forth and raise children! Imagine! We must defeat satan and this evil, God ordained man and woman and their body parts for different purposes,” Wakula emphasized.
Bishop Kagodo promised to offer transparent leadership to the Church and asked for cooperation and unity from believers.
Spiritual life
He begun as catechist, then deacon, priest and graciously appointed as canon.
Kagodo was born in 1968 in Mukono district and got ordained in 2002 and later priested in 2004.
Education background
Bishop Kagodo went to Namuyenje Primary School, Bishop’s Secondary School, Uganda Martyrs Seminary (Certificate in Theology), Uganda Christian University(Diploma in Health Administration), Uganda Christian University(Bachelor of Health Administration) and Uganda Christian University(Masters of Divinity).
Meanwhile; Rev. Canon Godfrey Mbitse has been elected the 3rd Bishop of Muhabura Diocese by the House of Bishops sitting on 25th February 2023 in Mukono. He will be consecrated and enthroned as Bishop on 2nd April 2023 at St. Andrew’s Cathedral, Seseme, Kisoro
Canon Mbitse was born on 2nd February 1964 in Ruko Village, Nyarubuye Subcounty, Kisoro District. He was born again in 1985 while in secondary school. In reflecting on his conversion to Christ, Canon Mbitse said, “My parents were not committed Christians, so I grew up not knowing much about Christ. I was trying to find life in worldly pleasures.” After many fellowships and morning devotions in primary and secondary school, “I was finally challenged by Matthew 6:33, which says, ‘Seek first his kingdom and righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.’ That day I committed to live for God instead of seeking worldly pleasures.”
Canon Mbitse earned a Bachelor of Divinity from Bishop Barham University College of Uganda Christian University in 2007, after having successfully been awarded a Diploma in Theology in 1998. He was ordained a deacon in 1998 and a priest in 1999 in Muhabura Diocese.
Canon Mbitse began ministry in Muhabura Diocese as a youth leader and Church Teacher. He has been a parish priest since 1998 and has served as an Archdeacon since 2009. Since 2015, he has also served as the Diocesan Mission Coordinator and Diocesan Head of Clergy.
Canon Mbitse is married to Anna Mbitse and God has blessed them with five children and six grandchildren.
