Following  Church of Uganda’ s  wide support towards the Anti Homosexuality Act 2023, it has ever since been treatened by donors to withdraw their funding towards its activities.

This triggered the board governing the church of Uganda to hold a meeting to devise means of how the church can survive away from the donations from their partners.

Among the plans the board agreed upon to sustain the church is the church land which they said should be put into productive use to keep the church activities moving. The board suggested partnering with local investors to develop the land, with the aim of generating resources to support the Church’s activities.

In addition, the board emphasised transparency and accountability in managing the church resources so that they can be used specifically for church roles and responsibilities. They pledged to foster a culture of openness and responsible financial management.

The Board Chair Ruth Kombe Kizza noted that when the church maximises potential of the land through transparency, she believes church land can ensure the church’ s long term sustainability.

The Director of finance, planning and development, and provincial Treasurer Balaam Muheebwa, commended the church board for the plans set to attain church’s self sustainability and pledged to stand with the church to support the proposed iniatives.

He added that he believes that this Board can engage local investors and ensure accountability thereby overcoming the threats possed by donor cuts.

This meeting was attended by, the Provincial Secretary of the Church of Uganda  Rev Canon William Ongeng,  the Director for Household and Community Transformation Rev. Andrew Agaba,  the Provincial Human Resource Manager  Jane Kigundu, the General Manager, Lweza Training and Conference Centre  Rev. Akwech Chrysostom, and Staff from the Directorate.
