The Civil Division of the High Court has issued an interim injunction to the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party restraining it from holding their planned Extra Ordinary National Delegates Conference.

The party leaders are planning to tell the Delegates Conference on September 19th this Year organized by the National Party Chairman Ambassador Wasswa Birigwa.

Some party members led by Jamal Wante, Marlick Ssazi and Arafat Ntale Mwanja petitioned the Party President and Secretary General seeking court to halt the said conference until they are given clear reasons for it.

Both parties have appeared before the High Court Justice Esther Nambayo who has set September 18th, 2023 for the parties to go back for the main suit.

On Tuesday this week, a group of the party chairpersons petitioned the FDC president Patrick Oboi Amuriat to discipline the National Party chairman Wasswa Birigwa, Vice Chairperson Eastern region Salaam Musumba and Vice Chairperson Western Roland Mugume Kaginda over misuse of power and failure to fulfill their obligations.

They blamed the three for violating the National council resolutions of the party structure elections, failure to support implementation of the decisions of the national council regarding the report of the special elders committee and failure to attend meetings with the working committee of the party.

In the petition signed by 113 district FDC chairpersons and read by the Masaka City FDC chairperson Joseph Senzoga before the Party Chief Administrative Officer Pauline Nanyanzi during a meeting at the party headquarters in Najjanankumbi, said the planned extra -ordinary meeting scheduled for September 19th 2023 should be canceled within 48hrs since it’s illegal and contradicts with the National Executive Committee meeting scheduled for 6th October 2023.

Senzoga noted that if the chairman failed to adhere to their demand within the stipulated time they directed the party president to exercise his powers within article 28(3) (b) (iii) to sanction the leaders for a disciplinary action.
