The former Buganda Kingdom prime minister who is Kabaka’s advisor Owek. Dan Muliika has expressed dissatisfaction over the meeting that the clan leaders (bataka) had with the president of Uganda His Excellency Yoweri Kaguta Museveni over land issues.

This comes at a time when the clan leaders of Buganda met Owek Joyce Nabbosa Ssebugwaawo who helped them to meet the president, seeking for his assistance on issues regarding acquiring land on Kabakanjagala road so that they can construct a joint building where every clan will have an office on it. And last week, the president took action by buying them  2 acres of land along kabakanjagala road.

According to Owek Dan Muliika, the bataka’s meeting with the president was not in any way necessary because if it was called for, it was the Katikkiro of Buganda Owek Charles Peter Mayiga who was supposed to meet the president on behalf of the Kingdom but the bataka donot have to represent the kingdom about any discussion on in its behalf.

Adressing the press at his residence in Bukoto, Owek Dan Muliika said that the kingdom is not against its engagement with central government or the President in particular but the bataka had to go through the right protocol, through talking to the Katikkiro about their need.

He added that the kingdom could even be in position to manage their own issues, and if so needed, it would be the king through His Katikkiro to meet the president to present the issue to him.

“There is no need for the Bataka to skip the kabaka and go meet the president on their own, we need to educate them on this matter so that they learn to respect the protocol.” He emphasised.

Owek. Dan Muliika noted that he is not pleased with this meeting since it symbolizes that the bataka do not trust their leaders in the kingdom which attracted them to go straight to the president thereby indicating disunity within the Kingdom.
