District Chairpersons in the Greater Kampala Metropolitan have expressed dissatisfaction over the Presidents plans change the system of giving Parish Development Model money from the parish level to village level in Kampala.

Every parish was supposed to be given 100 million shillings to be given to people in the parish as away of enabling them involve in different ventures and fight against poverty among themselves.

When the President of Uganda His Excellency Yoweri Kaguta Museveni was launching the National Population census to be carried out in the country by UBOS, at a function which took place in kololo, He stressed that according to Him, giving out money under PDM in Kampala will not be effective enough if they use the parish level system as it has been done.

The President revealed that there are plans to change this system in Kampala from Parish to village level since they discovered that in Kampala, Parishes are highly populated compared to the amount of money which is given out as this will leave out some people. The president indicated that the100 million shillings will instead be given to villages in Kampala since parishes have more villages.

But this did not please some district chairpersons that make up Greater Kampala Metropolitan such as Wakiso, Masaka and Mpigi. These district Chairpersons expresses that however much this system is very good, it should not stop in Kampala.

Wakiso district Chairperson Matia Lwanga Bwanika noted that goverment makes decissions before making enough research about the programs it brings to the people before it brings them as this leads to wastage of alot of money especially when the systems fail to successfully work out after being implemented.

The Mukono district Chairperson Peter Bakaluba Mukasa expressed concern over the government’s plans to initiate the PDM system in kampala yet for sometime, they have been asking the goverment for the same system in their district.

It should be noted that in 2021, the goverment introduced the Parish Development Model system for money to be given to people in the country with an aim of fighting poverty although many Ugandans have been complaining that they have not got a chance to get this money.
