The Mayor of Embresso town who doubles as the deputy commissioner of Barawe district Mr. Coddi Xosan Xusan, has appreciated the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces Battle Group XXXVIII serving under the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) for the unwavering support rendered to the people of Somalia especially Embresso town when it assisted the Embresso local leaders with earth moving machines to level the ground for Level IV hospital construction.
“Your tireless efforts in preventing wrong elements disrupting the prevailing peace cannot be taken for granted. Now you are helping us with levelling the foundation ground where to build a hospital, shukran,” said Xusan.
Col Christopher Berochan, the Battle Group XXXVIII Commander said that although the hospital construction works lie with Barawe district leadership, ATMIS is in solidarity with the people of Barawe in their effort to improve their healthy life.
“Supporting the people of Barawe to realize their development potential is key in ATMIS mandate and we are committed to making sure that Somalis enjoy their social amenities,” said Col Berochan.
On top of degrading the Al-Shabaab, ATMIS forces have supported a number of social infrastructural projects aimed at promoting civil military cooperation.
ATMIS forces have participated in the expansion and clearing of roads, rehabilitated culverts, provided medical care, and in June 2023, Battle Group XXXVIII supported Barawe district with engineers to level the foundation ground for the construction of the youth recreation center.
