Joint-record Uganda Cup winners Express (12) needed a late equaliser and post-match spot kicks to navigate past Kitara Regional League (3rd Div) side Rwenzori Lions to the competition’s round of 16.

After an intense penalty shout-out, the Red Eagles eventually won 8-7 at the Muteesa II Memorial Stadium Wankulukuku following an one-all draw after 90 minutes.

Express top scorer Isaac Wagoina with eight league goals was the hero again as he scored a very late equaliser that resuscitated the Red Eagles’ hopes to claim their 13th League Cup title.

The visitors led the game 1-0 from the end of the first half to the 85th minute when Wagoina was brought down in the forbidden area.

A penalty was awarded to the hosts, Wagoina got up, took the ball and took it upon himself to take the penalty amidst immense pressure in the dying minutes of the game – he scored to force the game into the post match shout-out.

Express now joins Pajule Lions, KCCA FC Vipers SC, Police FC, Young Simba FC, and Kitara FC on the list of teams that have so far reached the last 16.
