Police in Rwampara District have detained Wilberforce Mucunguzi and are actively searching for his wife, Provia Natukunda, both residents of Bushenyi Cell in Ruganda Sub-County, Rwampara, on charges of torturing their son to death. The victim, identified as Davis Besisira, 18, a senior four student at Rwampara Vocational Secondary School, tragically lost his life.

Samson Kasasira, the Rwizi region Police spokesperson, disclosed that on September 9, 2023, Besisira was given 640,000 Shillings to pay school fees, which he subsequently squandered. On September 21, upon discovering Besisira’s financial mismanagement, he fled to his aunt’s place. However, his parents located him there at night and subjected him to brutal torture until the morning.

Kasasira revealed that Alice Nakuya, the Rugando Sub County Woman Councilor, came to Besisira’s rescue and returned him to school after discovering the horrifying situation. Unfortunately, Besisira’s health deteriorated while at school, and he was rushed to Kinoni Health IV over the weekend, where he passed away on Sunday morning.

Following a postmortem at Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital, Besisira’s father was arrested, while his mother, Natukunda, fled and is currently in hiding.

In a separate incident, the Isingiro Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of Richmond Tumusime, an 11-year-old Primary Five pupil at Citizen Nursery and Primary School. Tumusime reportedly consumed contaminated juice from his bottle, which led to vomiting and loss of consciousness. Preliminary investigations suggest that his dissatisfaction with the school’s diet, primarily consisting of Posho and beans, may have prompted him to consume the poisoned juice.

Tumusime’s body remains in the mortuary at Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital pending a postmortem examination and further investigations.
