Father, two sons killed by lightening in Rubanda District
Police in Rubanda district is investigating circumstances under which 3 people of the same family were killed by lightening during a heavy hailstorm in Rwamuyora village in Nyarurambi Parish in Muko subcounty on Sunday
Kigezi Regional Police Spokesman Elly Maate has confirmed the incident and identified the victims as Kanunu Ambrose aged 35 years and his two sons, Asiimwe Justus aged 7 years and Habomugisha Arnold aged 5 years.
Maate told journalists that the incident took place on Sunday afternoon while the three were in their house during a heavy rain pour.
It’s now reported that the only survivor was the wife of Kanunu who is the mother of the 2 children identified as Uwimana Allen aged 32 years who was in the kitchen cooking supper at the time the lightening struck.
Lightning is an electrical discharge caused by imbalances between storm clouds and the ground, or within the clouds themselves. Most lightning occurs within the clouds.
According to science, thunder and lightning during rainfall is caused by the negative charged ice crystals are attracted to the positive charge, as well as to charges in nearby clouds and positive charges on the ground. When this attraction is strong enough, the charges join together and discharge, creating flashes of lightning.
