The Forum for Democratic party is to postpone its internal elections which were planned to take place in July this year 2023. This follows complaints from around the country that the party electoral management team has not fully prepared the public for the elections.

According to the party National Chairman Wasswa Biriggwa, the decision to postpone the internal elections is because of the complaints from the party members for lack of enough preparedness, therefore they are trying means of making proper preparations for the elections to take place.

It should be remembered that during the party National council meeting at the party headquarters in Najjanamkumbi, Biriggwa noted that , “It is on the basis of this petition that I exercise my powers as party chairman, in the best interest of the party, to postpone the elections until the National sitting here today determines what kind of elections it wants in order to have a vibrant and competitive party.”

Before the outbreak of the internal wrangles within the party, the party electoral commission chief Wilberforce Toterebuka had released the electoral plan, showing that the elections were expected to take place from  different regions  of Uganda, to villages then to the National level, but all the plans were disorganised by the party intrenal conflicts.

The Genesis of the party internal conflicts got to the ears of the public when the party spokesman Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda through the media accused the party secretary Nathan Nandala Mafabi and the party president Patrick Amuliat Oboi, for selling the party to the hands of the ruling party president His excellence Yoweri Kaguta Miseveni.

This sparked off two  party  press conferences held on the same day, Dr. Kiiza Besigye’s conference at his office at Katonga road and Mafabi with Amuliat adressing the press at the party headquarters in Najjanamkumbi, both sides pointing at each other for leading the party into conflicts, the main issue being money from the ruling party.
