After online harassment and disrespect towards the Katikkiro of Buganda and the Kingdom at large, Frank Gashumba, the Executive Director of Sisimuka Uganda, paid a courtesy visit to Owek Charles Peter Mayiga, the Katikkiro of Buganda, on October 7, 2024, to deliver his apology.

This follows a series of offensive and disrespectful accusations that Gashumba made on his social media platforms, falsely alleging that the Katikkiro was responsible for the challenges the Buganda Kingdom was facing at that time.

Even though Gashumba repeatedly posted such misleading messages to the public, the Katikkiro did not retaliate and instead chose to remain silent. It was only now, after feeling guilty, that Gashumba decided to apologize.

During their meeting at Bulange in Mengo, Gashumba went directly to the office of the Katikkiro, where the media was not permitted to attend. However, he later proceeded to the cabinet room, where the press was welcomed.

The Katikkiro received and accepted Gashumba’s apology and appreciated him for acknowledging his mistakes.

The Katikkiro accepted this apology based on the Kabaka’s words: that apologizing is a humble act. He conveyed that the Kabaka had instructed him to deliver this message to the family of the late Tamale Mirundi when they requested an apology a few days earlier.

Gashumba acknowledged his guilt regarding the statements he made about the Katikkiro and the Kingdom. He mentioned that prominent figures in the country, particularly religious leaders, had advised him, leading him to conclude that it was wise to apologize.

Gashumba requested the Katikkiro to allow him to lead the Bavandimwe group in paying a courtesy visit to the kingdom as a way of supporting its activities.
