Hours after Mr. Justus Mugisha has been handed over to the top football governing position in the country, Mugisha has this morning praised the girls for the mileston they have gone so far in the 2019 COSAFA U17 girls championship held in Mauritius.

“I am very very proud of what the U 17 girls team has so far accomplished in the COSAFA tournament. The team has made a big big statement. That Uganda is among the best when it comes to women football development with only South Africa and Zambia being in the same cohort of 14 or so countries that consititute the COSAFA Zone.

“The final match may yet prove that Uganda is actually destined to be a head of even the much feared South Africa. That’s what happens with consistent and focused development in a sector.
Since 2005, FUFA has together with USSSA run an annual competition of girls football in secondary schools,” Mugisha said.

“This girls tournament has seen girls football become a mass sport in the country eclipsing all other sports in schools including netball. The popularity of Girls football is now only second to boys football in schools,” added.

The annual participation of girls teams in FEASSSA regional games for the last 18 year has also created a catalyst for girls football development.
The creation of a national Women’s league by FUFA 5years ego and now the regional league has given Uganda a crtical adge over many countries in Africa. Naturally, the majority of the clubs participating in the FUFA leagues are school,” Justus noted.

Another big factor has been the Airtel rising Stars programme that has impacted a lot on girls football development.

And yes, the focused leadership at FUFA and USSSA has made this possible,” he thanked.

The just launched women football development project by FUFA may yet put women football in Uganda miles a head in a few years to come.
I am proud to have been part of the FUFA and the schools team that has enabled this to happen. Thank you Eng Magogo and your exco for your focused leadership in this area.
The girls have what it takes to conquer South Africa.
