The professor Emmanuel T Mutebile memorial squash tournament which started on 29, January still going on at Kampala club venue.
This is the first edition and it will be organised annually and is purely sponsored by Bank of Uganda.
According to Silas Katonyera, squash captain and the tournament director said that the Bank of Uganda have injected 10million shillings towards this tournament.
The tournament which will come to an end on Saturday, February 3rd, has attracted 54 players in total, 32 males, 14 ladies and 8 juniors.
Five categories have been competing in this tournament which includes, veterans (50+years), males,ladies, mixed plate and juniors.
“So far the tournament is going well and i expect a good finals”, Silas states.
Laura Rogers, a player from Newzealand who came to Uganda, last year in May said that the tournament is competitive and she does not expect to win this tournament though she won her first game.
Silas, the tournament director said that they decided to organise this tournament in order to honour the contributions which were done by the late Emmanuel Mutebile towards the development of squash in Uganda.
The winner in male category will walk away with 800,000 shillings, runners up with 600,000, semi finalists with 300,000, quarter finalists with 100,000 while the winner in ladies category will walk away with 500,000 shillings, runners up with 300,000 and semi finalists with 100,000
Meanwhile Gaetano Kaggwa lost Robert Isabalijja by 3:0 and here are the results on the games played on Wednesday.
Men’s category
Paul Kadoma won Vincent Kibira by 3:0, Ronnie Kaserenge won Samuel Mwogeza 3:0, Isma Bwanika won Herbert Kafrika 3:0, Martin Masiko won Ambrose Agumenaitwe 3:0, Ivan Waswa won Nicholas Kiwanuka 3:0, Samuel Kyagulanyi won Martin Bugembe 3:0, Steven Magero won Maurice Bua 3:0, Timothy Kayondo won Joseph Kiwuuwa 3:0.
Veteran’s category
Silas Katonyera won Charles Kirenda 3:0, Monday Aziho won JB Tamwesigire 3:0, William Byaruhanga won Shem Muganga 3:1.
Ladies category
Laura Rogers won Isabella Abyeiegeka 3:0 and Safinah Mugide won Joweria Mpomba 3:0.
Mixed plate
Raphael Ssozi won Martin Masiko 3:0, Stephen Magero won Clive Zaabu 3:0, Sam Mwogeza won Cedric Serwadda 3:0 and Stephen Wampaba won Adrian Mwine 3:0.
The quarter finals will be played tomorrow and finals on Saturday and chief guest is expected to be the deputy governor of Bank of Uganda, Michael Atingi Ego.
