MK Movement Chairman Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba reminisced about the time he spent in Teso region battling LRA rebels as he addressed thousands of people that gathered at Kongunga Primary School Grounds in Kachumbala county in Bukedea district.
“I know Teso very well. It is my home. And I thank you for this warm welcome,” said Gen Kainerugaba who was in Teso for six months in 2003.
“I’ve come here to greet you… Thank you so much for coming in big numbers.”
At the Monday morning event, which was spearheaded by Speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among, Gen Kainerugaba, who is also the senior presidential advisor on Special Operations — urged residents to support development programs that the government is implementing in the region.
At the event, Speaker Among requested Gen Kainerugaba to officiate the handover of a dummy cheque of Shs240 million to Koena Sub-county SACCO, which will be used to empower women and youth in the region.
Speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among and her deputy, Thomas Tayebwa, received Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba at Kongunga Primary School in Kachumbala county in Bukedea district.
Thousands of residents gathered at the school grounds and before the arrival of Gen Kainerugaba, residents were treated to musical performances from some local singing groups and the rapper Gravity Omutujju, real name Gereso Wabuyu.
Over 300 MPs attended the event and they include Health Minister Jane Aceng, Luuka MP Esther Mbayo, Kachumbala MP Patrick Opolot, Kasambya County MP Daudi Kabanda, who is also the Deputy Spokesman MK Movement.
Speaker Among gave Gen Kainerugaba a cow and said she was returning a heifer from the cow President Yoweri Museveni gave her when she visited his farm in Kisozi.
Gen Kainerugaba will be a guest of honour today evening as youth face off in a football tournament dubbed MK Cup that will be played at Soroti Stadium.
There will also be a kasiki later in the night ahead of a motor rally and the Baraza that will be held on Soroti Sports Ground on Tuesday.
