Girona have announced the capture of experienced defender Daley Blind on a free transfer.
The 33-year-old has arrived at the La Liga club from Bayern Munich, with his deal at Allianz Arena expiring on June 30, and he has penned a two-year contract with the White and Reds.
“Daley Blind is a new player for Girona FC. The Dutch defender has signed for two seasons; until 2024-2025,” read a statement on the club’s official website
The Netherlands international started his professional career with Ajax, representing the Dutch giants between 2008 and 2014 before making the move to Manchester United.
Blind turned out for the Red Devils on 141 occasions in all competitions before securing a return to Ajax, making a further 190 appearances for the club.
The experienced defender joined Bayern on a free transfer in January on a contract until the end of the 2022-23 campaign.
However, he only featured on five occasions for the Bundesliga giants and was not offered a new deal, becoming a free agent at the end of last month.
Girona have now announced his arrival on an initial two-year contract, with Blind set to play in Spain for the first time in his professional career.
The White and Reds enjoyed a successful 2022-23 campaign in Spain’s top flight following their promotion from the Segunda Division, claiming 10th position in the table.
Blind will bring a wealth of experience with him to Girona, having featured on 101 occasions for the Netherlands during an international career which started in 2013.
The defender won seven Eredivisie titles during his two spells at Ajax, in addition to two KNVB Cups.
Blind won the FA Cup, EFL Cup, Community Shield and Europa League during his time at Man United, meanwhile, in addition to the Bundesliga title last season at Bayern.
The Dutchman has become Girona’s second signing of the summer window, with experienced goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga also arriving from Fulham.
