Government releases over Shs3bn gratuity funds for civilian veteran beneficiaries from greater Luwero

Today, Wednesday June 5th, the Government of Uganda, through the Office of the Prime Minister (Luwero-Rwenzori Portfolio) announces the release of gratuity (Akasimo) funds worth UGX. 3 ,043,000,000= (Three billion, forty-three million shillings only) to verified Civilian Veteran Beneficiaries from Greater Luwero.

The released the gratuity (Akasiimo) funds will pay 1,269 beneficiaries that were cleared by the Veterans Verification Committee under the 51st schedule from the Districts of Luwero, Nakasongola and Nakaseke.

Effective 2008, when the gratuity Programme started, to-date June, 2024, government has so far verified and paid 87,269 beneficiaries in recognition of the support and contribution they gave during the liberation struggle between (1981-1986).

Minister Alice Kaboyo said, “the Veterans Verification Committee will continue verifying the Civilian Veterans that have not yet been considered and my office shall ensure that allocated funds for the Akasiimo is paid to the right beneficiaries.

” The gratuity (akasiimo) is not commensurate to one’s contribution but rather a thank you’ in recognition of one’s contribution. I therefore wish to thank His Excellency the President of the Republic of Uganda, who in his wisdom established the Akasiimo Programme in 2008.”Minister Alice added while addressing the press conference at media centre in Kampala .

The lists of 1,269 gratuity beneficiaries indicating their names, National Identification Numbers (NIN), amount received, Sub county and Districts will be displayed on the Notice boards of the respective beneficiary districts and the Luwero Regional Office for ease of reference.
