The ministry of disaster preparedness and management is seeking for over UGX66bn for providing relief to people affected by persistence increase of rainfall across the country.


While addressing the media at Uganda media center Kampala, Hillary Oneke minister for disaster preparedness and management said, that more than 1 million people have directly affected by rain fall with its associated problems and over 300,000 people have been displaced.


The most affected areas are those along shores of lakes Victoria and Kyoga like Buikwe, Wakiso, Kampala, Kayunga, Buliisa, Kikuube, Kagadi, Ntoroko, Buyende, Nakasongola among others whereby floods, water logging hit mostly.


Minister Onek says, in mountainous areas specifically Elgon, 567 people have been displaced from 81 households, and other areas which have seriously affected by landslides, muds, floods are Bunyoro, Bundibujjo, Ssebei, Lango, Teso, and Kweeni.

Minister adds that, they have so far used over UGX40b to provide relief both food and non food items to some of these people affected, however he urged the public to remain vigilant as the rain still continues in accordance to Uganda national meteorological authority(UNMA).
