Government has introduced and passed a new exercise duty tax of 75 shs on every litter of bottled drinking water starting next financial year 2023/24.
This was tabled today evening in parliament by the state minister of finance Amos Lugoloobi before parliament justifying that some companies under declare taxes wich affects the genuine ones.
He says that the additional 75 shs on the current 10 percent on every litter of bottled water will only apply to those found under declaring taxes.
However this passed after a long discussion of opposing the tax from opposition in parliament led by their shadow minister of finance who is also Butambala county MP Muwanga Kivumbi.
Kivumbi urgued that introducing of 75 shs on every litter of bottled water affects the principle of access to clean and safe drinking water.
Meanwhile parliament has passed additional excise duty taxes on spirits, alcohol and also exemption of excise duty locally manufactured row materials.
