“Patience, teamwork, hard work and determination were key in my journey to success and I promise more gold medals for Uganda the years to come Allah willingly.

“I thank the almighty Allah for the glorious moment, I take this opportunity to thank my coaches who have been instrumental in my career since the age of 13 at Bombo SS where I started my career, I thank my colleague, sister Winnie whom we have been together good and bad for the last ten year, Winnie! you have always been supportive.”

The Federation has also done a tremendous job to see us achieve success, Joshua has also been supportive especially when it comes to training in Bulambuli and money become a problem he can always intervine” She added.

The 24 year old clocked 1:58.04 to win gold and became the first ever Ugandan female to win the race at the IAAF champions.

She joins the likes of Caster Semenya, Maryna Arzamasava, Eunice Sum and Janeth Jepkosgei as the other Athletes to have claimed the 800m race gold.

Joshua Cheptegei who also won Gold in 10,000 metres race just agreed with Nakaayi’s speech saying that we share the same story.

He praised Dorcus Nzikuru and Stephen Kiproitich for mentering them.
