Harry Kane capped his Bundesliga debut with a goal and an assist in Bayern Munich’s 4-0 victory over Werder Bremen in their campaign opener on Friday night.

The England captain debuted for Munich in their 3-0 loss to RB Leipzig in the German Super Cup last weekend, just hours after completing a move to the club from Tottenham Hotspur.

Kane was introduced into the starting XI for the league game with Bremen on Friday, and he set up Leroy Sane in the fourth minute of the contest, as Thomas Tuchel’s made the breakthrough.

The 30-year-old then doubled Bayern’s lead in the 74th minute by sweeping a low effort into the back of the net from 15 yards out.

Kane was then substituted in the 84th minute of the match, but Tuchel’s side managed to score twice more in stoppage time through Sane and Mathys Tel to secure a thumping win in Bremen.

“I was a little bit nervous [and] excited to play the game of course,” Kane told DAZN after the match. “We started well with a goal in the first few minutes. For sure there were a few butterflies, but as always when I get on the pitch, instinct takes over.”

Bayern will not be back in action until August 27 against Augsburg, while they will open September with a trip to Borussia Monchengladbach ahead of the international break.

Tuchel was full of praise for Kane for his impressive Bundesliga debut, telling reporters: “He had a constant influence. He’s simply very, very smart. He knows what he’s doing and he’s unbelievably precise.

“Also in training, the style and way in which he does things on the field, how much desire he has to training, how much pleasure he shows and the quality that he has, it’s absolutely top, he’s impressive.

“He makes every player around him better because of his awareness. It was a very, very good debut.”

Kane’s future was the subject of speculation throughout the summer before it was confirmed that he would be making the move to Bayern in a big-money deal.

Manchester United had thought to have identified the Three Lions skipper as their number one transfer target before it became clear that Tottenham would not be selling to a domestic rival.

Kane said last week that his motivation for moving to Bayern was to feel the pressure of challenging for major trophies.

As well as the Bundesliga, the Munich giants will be aiming for Champions League success this term, with their group-stage campaign due to begin in September.
