Head of State House Unit hails students for joining fight against corruption

The Head of the State House Anti-Corruption Unit, Brig Gen Henry Isoke, has hailed students for joining the fight against corruption through school debates and other competitions.

Speaking at the end of the Uganda Speech and Debate Champions League themed on fighting corruption on Thursday, Brig Isoke assured the students that their actions today will echo in the corridors of power tomorrow.

The Uganda Speech and Debate Champions League, which was organised by National Debate Council Uganda (NDC) in partnership with State House Anti-Corruption Unit, was held at the Office of the President in Kampala and was won by Ntare School.

Brig. Isoke thanked the students, coaches and school leaders for participating and facilitating this year’s competition.

In a special way, he thanked the ED NDC, Mr. Gasta Kakaire, for mobilizing young people to participate in the initiative. He has also re-echoed the shared commitment of Anti-Corruption Agencies to foster informed, empowered and socially responsible future leaders.

The competition featured schools such as Mbarara High School, Ntare School, Kings College Budo, Sacred Heart SS Gulu, Nyakasura School, Kiira College Butiki, Mengo Senior School, and St Mary’s College Kisubi.
Preliminary Rounds were held on Friday, December 1st, and Sat, December 2nd, 2023.

The Statehouse Anti-Corruption Unit since its inception from 2018, it has recovered over 55 billion Uganda shillings, 521 accused persons have been arraigned in Court, 87 have been convicted of which 59 are public officials and 31 private persons.

Out of 521 that have been arraigned in Court, 282 are civil servants, 48 from central government,170 from local government, 64 statutory and 239 Private persons.

Speaking during the third Sebei region anti-Corruption Marathon and Citizen’s dialogue held at Amanang Secondary school in Bukwo district on 3rd, Sunday December 2023, Ms. Natasha Mariam, the Senior Public relations office of the Unit noted that, the Unit has embarked on strengthening its collaborations with civil society in the fight against Corruption.
