Following the heavy rainfall in different parts of the country, Kasese residents are stranded after the crucial bridge that connects Kihalimu and Kyaminyoku cells and the surrounding areas was broken.
This bridge has been making work easy for businesses, transportation, and daily activities of the local residents but after breaking, all activities are being challenged.
One of the residents of Kihalimu cell Rosette Kyakimwa showed concern over residents, her being among them who work on a daily basis but find it hard to move to town every day since they incur more transport costs from 2000 to 3000 which is greatly affecting them. She added that difficulties in transport has as well affected school going children, thereby asking government to intervene.
Deputy Mayor for Kasese Municipality Rabison Mupango noted that the municipality has offered culverts to the residents to make temporary bridges with hope that the USMID project will provide a better solution through constructing better bridges in the area.
Municipality legislator Ferigo Kambale emphasised that however much roads have been constructed in the area, there is need for working on the drainage system in the area for the safety of both infrastructure and residents in the municipality.
The LC 1 Chairman for Kyaminyoku Ahamada Njima said that residents have resorted to constructing temporary bridges which are not safe at all and cannot accommodate vehicles, not even motorcycles, which needs government to come up with permanent solution.
