The high court of Uganda has confirmed that all the properties that were returned to Buganda Kingdom from central government were returned legally after going through the rightful procedures.

This follows a case opened by Prince Harold Kimere in 2020, against the Buganda Kingdom King His Majesty Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II and the government Attorney General expressing dissatisfaction over the properties that were returned to the Kingdom saying, that some of them did not legally belong to the kingdom.

According to Prince Kimera, a grandchild of the late King (Ssekabaka) Daudi Chwa claiming that Kabaka’s lake in Ndeeba Lubaga Division Kyadondo county belongs to him together with the Bumera Tombs land. He therefore wanted the King to refund him with 60 US dollars and the Kabaka’s lake be returned to him.

Buganda Kingdom Attorney General Owek. Christopher Bwanika together with the Lawyers of Buganda land board of K & K advocates and Royal law chambers stressed that this act is disrespectful to the kingdom noting that they are not going to tolerate it anymore especially to those who plan to open up such cases against the King and kingdom at large.

Lawyer Ssebuufu Usama from K and K advocates which has been representing the King suggested that whoever opens up a case against the King and the kingdom gets legal victory, but if not should be penalised with huge amounts of money in compassion to act as an example to those who may plan to do the same.

In this, court has ordered Prince Kimera to refund the Buganda Kingdom and the central government with all the money that has been spent on this case.
