Parliaments committee on rules discipline and privileges to start its investigations into allegations of use of defamatory words by Mityana municipality MP against Rakai district woman MP Hon. Juliet Kinyamatama on Thursday.
Last month deputy speaker Rt Hon. Thomas Tayebwa directed the committee to investigate the conduct of Hon. Zaake after Hon. Kinyamatama tabled a video of Hon. Zaake using defamatory words against her while he was in her constituency.
The committee chaired by Bugweri county MP Hon. Abdul Katuntu today, Tuesday November 7th 2023 met with Hon. Kinyamatama ,Hon. Zaake and his lawyers and it was agreed that Hon. Zaake be given the said video for him to look at it before committee can start its investigations on Thursday.
Hon. Zaake through his lawyer, Erias Lukwago, the Kampala City Lord Mayor has informed the committee that the last time the video was watched his client was almost lynched and asked the committee to assure them on the security of his client.
Katuntu in response informed Zaake and his lawyer that there will not be any mayhem as the committee has disciplined mps.
Hon. Lukwago also wanted the committee to investigate the conduct of Hon. Kinyamatama when she led female MPs to attack Hon. Zaake but Katuntu informed him this was not part of the issues that was sent to the committee and asked him all the other reservations he has on the piece of evidence should wait until the video is received in the committee.
Hon. Zaake said. “Ippeared before Parliament’s Rules Committee today morning on allegations that I defamed one Hon. Kobusingye Juliet Kinyamatama. The Committee will begin its inquiries into this case on Thursday at 11:00AM.
“I used the opportunity to bring the Committee’s attention to the occurrences during and after the proceedings of 12 October 2023 when a mob of NRM MPs including Hon. Kinyamatama attempted to lynch me at Parliament. As expected, the Committee responded that this issue does not concern them as its not one of they are investigating. “Zaak noted.
Tomorrow morning, I will appear before the Disciplinary Committee again to explain why I demanded for the ongoing abductions of NUP supporters to stop and for the release of political prisoners. The Parliament leadership says doing so was an act of indiscipline. “Cited Hon. Zaake.
Hon. Francis Zaake Butebi also yesterday, Monday November 6th appeared before the same committee on matters of misconduct.
